The Hospitalfield Arts Garden draws inspiration from its location on Scotland’s east coast, with its striking yet delicate sand dune landscape. Designed by Nigel Dunnett, who also designed the walled garden at Hospitalfield, the space serves as an outdoor arts studio and workspace. It provides a versatile setting for art practice, exhibitions, teaching, and performances, all deeply connected to the natural environment.
At the centre of the garden is an "artist bothy" studio, set within a beautiful and resilient garden. There is a strong sense of place: the dramatic sand dune topography is a sculptural and abstract representation of the natural habitat. Sand is used to create the landform and as the planting medium for the evocative coastal planting, which by its nature is resilient to different climates and weather.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
Dedicated to contemporary art and ideas, Hospitalfield Arts has an international reputation in the visual arts and supports artists in their working lives through its renowned artist residency programmes. It also champions the importance of arts, and of the teaching and learning of the arts, inspiring and nurturing the creative health of young people.
The garden will be relocated to Ladyloan Primary School in Arbroath, a newly built school close to Hospitalfield that forms part of Angus Council’s strategic investment into primary education in the region. The school is situated almost on the beach in Arbroath and the relocated garden will be adapted to create a stimulating space for children and teachers to enjoy.
