The Hospice UK Garden of Compassion celebrates life and the connections we share with each other, and the natural world that we are all a part of, making it a fitting tribute to the essential work of hospice care. It draws on the spirit of Mediterranean landscapes, showing how thoughtfully designed spaces can play a crucial role in providing comfort and calm at the end of life.
Inspired by the Olive Houses in Mallorca and broader Mediterranean settings, it uses large craggy boulders to anchor the space and create a strong sense of being grounded in nature. The naturalistic planting is all about vibrant Mediterranean tones, with drought-tolerant plants creating a rich tapestry of colour and texture. Sculptural benches and water bowls draw you in, adding to the garden’s sense of tranquillity and reflection.
The result is a restorative sanctuary that is fully accessible to a wheelchair or hospice bed, creating a space that feels as nurturing as it is beautiful.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
Hospice UK is the national champion for hospices, fighting to make sure hospice care is there for all who need it, for now and forever. It represents the community of more than 200 hospices across the UK. It fights to make sure hospices are able to deliver the best, most personalised care, and to make sure hospices can thrive today and into the future.
Following the show, the garden will be relocated to St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham, a location which has inspired the garden’s design.
